Aging Solutions - Stay at Home. Stay Independent.

Not surprisingly, the vast majority of older adults express a strong desire to continue aging in the own home.  They  spent years decorating their home so that the house reflects their personality.  They have worked hard for many years to pay off the mortgage and be rid of these monthly payments.  They have full control over who comes over to visit, when the visitors come over, and the length of the visit.   A home is filled with so many memories that the mere thought of leaving can be emotional difficult.  So, why don’t we try to help older adults remain in their home for as long as possible?

I am not saying that we longer need nursing homes, of course we need nursing homes.  But, I think most would agree, that nursing homes are a last resort when all other options, such as home care from professional caregivers or family members, are no longer suitable.    In these situations,  nursing homes can provide the care, safety, and medical attention that an older adult could not receive in their own home.

Aging Solutions, a company based in the Greater Toronto Area, focuses on keeping older adults in their home, safely, for as long as possible and  prevent or delay admission to a long-term care facility.  Clients of Aging Solutions receive a thorough and comprehensive home inspection (both interior and exterior) that will detail areas of the home that should be modified to minimize accidents and falls.  An Aging Solutions Inc. home inspection will emphasize the need to prevent falls because the consequences of a fall can be fatal.  Seniors are injured at home more than any other location.  One in three older adults will fall each year.  Hip injuries are the most common injury resulting from falls, and 40% of all falls will result in a hip fracture.  Twenty percent of deaths due to injury are the result of falls. Forty percent of all nursing home admissions are the result of a fall.    Falls can lead to a loss of confidence, fear of falling again, and decrease in activity.   According to a recent Canadian report, if we can reduce falls by even 20%, we can reduce hospital admissions by 7,500/yr, and prevent 1,800 senior from becoming disabled every year in our country.

The home inspection will inform you about  what modifications you require immediately, and what changes will be needed in the future, which will help you plan for future expenditures.  The key to minimizing falls and accidents is prevention, so you need to make changes to your home sooner, rather than later.
