There is Something Universal About Caregiving
Posted on Thu, October 20, 2011 at 8:43 pm
When I wrote a story about caregiving for a popular mom\'s website, I didn\'t know how it would be received because the article was geared to the sandwich generation - those caring for their children and their aging parents. I shared important tips on how to help identify if a caregiver is reaching burnout and why it is so important to realize that you are reaching your boiling point. If you are too tired, sick, or overworked you won\'t be able to care for yourself, your children, or your parents. What surprised me so much was the fact that even young mothers related to the article, which made me realize that there seems to be something universal about caregiving. Anyone in a caregiving role seems to feel pulled in many directions and feel guilty if they take time for themselves. There are never enough hours in the day, and it feels impossible to do a good job at all the tasks at hand. Caregivers need to realize that they are much too hard on themselves, and they are doing an excellent job!
