GPS Shoes Used to Help Locate Those with Dementia and Alzheimers

If you are caring for a senior with Alzheimers or dementia, or if your loved one with Alzheimers in a nursing home and has made a successful attempt out of the long term care facility, there is a relatively new product that can help you locate them. Most are aware of cellphones to track seniors with Alzheimers, but they must remember to have the cellphone with them for this method to be successful. GTX Corp, a California based company, has developed a shoe embedded with GPS tracking technology. If your loved one travels beyond the predetermined geographic boudaries, the family member will receive a text message advising him/her of the situation. The family member can then use a website to see the exact location of their loved one. Unfortunately, the tracking service, which is the the basis of the service, is currently only available in the United States, but hopefully it is just a matter of time before it will also be available in Canada.
