Hospital Threatens Senior With $1300 Daily Fee

Posted on Mon, December 12, 2011 at 8:56 pm

When an Ontario senior suffered a stroke and ended up in the hospital with a feeding tube and distorted speech, her daughter choose two nursing homes to add as her `desired homes` for the  nursing home application list, all other nursing homes where too far for family and friends to travel and visit.  The hospital wrote a letter to the daugther indicating that she must add a third nursing home to the list or face a daily hospital rate of $1300, which is actually against both hospital and Ministry of Health and Long-term care policy.  Thankfully the hospital retracted the ultamatum when this sitation was made public.

It is important that family members of seniors  know their rights and if a policy is violated, contract the Ministry responsible for the applicable concern.   Visit your provinces Ministry website for the appropriate numbers to call.  Don`t be afraid to ask questions to better understand policies and procedures - you`re helping your loved one by doing so.
