Simple Changes Can Improve Cognitive Functioning in Seniors

Posted on Thu, December 15, 2011 at 3:43 pm

A new study published in Aging, Neuropsychology, and Cognition described how simple changes can help lessen the impact of age related visual problems, and consequently, cognition.  Researchers from Boston University and Case Western Reserve University choose to study Bingo because it is a popular activity amoung seniors.  They found that all groups (young healthy, old healthy, Alzheimers, Parkinsons) performed better when the bingo cards are larger, the font is more bold, and fewer bingo cards are used at once.  When dealing with seniors, there may be ways to compensate for some non-memory related declines which can have the effect of improving cognitive functioning.
