This is a culturally appropriate (Polish) nursing home with a professional staff who work hard for residents and family. However there are not enough caregivers or nurses and that is endemic throughout all the homes. And the best nurses suffer under a unsustainable patient load eventually burning out. Activities for the residents suffer when this government refuses to dignify our most vulnerable elderly with the same funding they reserve for criminals sitting in our jails.

Treatment of some medical needs of residents (e.g. - wound care) is not always timely --- diagnosis of a wound care problem and initiating a immediate plan of care is slow. There is limited RN staffing as with all Ont. LTC facilities. It appears RNs are basically busy with medication dispensing, no time to assess residents for other issues. As a family member and POA of a resident in this facility, there have been occasions where medication management has been an issue. My request to obtain a list of current meds my family member is taking and the plan of care the facility is following has been met with barriers. It is not a transparent or inclusive process. Staff and administrators can take a defensive approach when "too many questions" are asked. PSW support generally is very good. PSW staff is caring and they try their best to meet the individual needs of residents. There are times when PSW staff is not diligent in meeting resident personal hygiene/care needs (e.g. - leaving residents in wet diapers/clothing)...when family is present, the response is timely.
