I am posting this with the great hope that anyone who sees this DOES NOT CHOOSE this absolutely awful and seemingly unregulated institution. not only do the Medical staff cast a blind eye towards horrific situations such as residents who are VIOLENT not being kept locked up the list goes on and on and on. feel free to contact me at jon100.ingham@sympatico.ca Jonathan Ingham

The temperature is cold especially for the elderly. The staff try their best, however there is not enought support. There are no programs after dinner and the clients are placed in front of the tv. There are limited activities in the day. The one consistent activity is 'knitting' and most of the clients have fine motor difficulties

My mother has been living at the Villa for almost 4 weeks now. She took about 2 weeks to adjust but now is quite content. We especially like the spiritual atmosphere, mass in the chapel every day and the on site pool. I can't believe that only 2 people have rated the Villa and gave it such a low rating. The buildings and grounds are beautiful and spacious. My mother enjoys walking and there is a great deal of walking to be done inside and out. Great indoor areas for the winter. We have seen several deer outside the dining and bedroom windows. This facility borders some of the Dundas Valley.

The treatment that residents receive here is atrocious. Here are a few of our experiences: - Not bathed - Teeth not brushed for days - Not taken to the toilet – encouraged to soil pants so as to avoid inconveniencing staff - Staff members do not take the time to walk my family member to the toilet despite clear requests and demonstrations that my family member is indeed capable of walking – they are causing an increased likelihood of motor ability loss - Staff do not treat residents with respect. When my family member requested to be taken to the toilet, the staff member instructed my family member to go in briefs, causing feelings of humiliation in front of us guests - On one occasion I joined my family member for lunch in the cafeteria – another resident was making some noise and a staff member snapped at the resident, repeatedly telling them to “shut up.” It wasn’t until I turned around and made eye contact that the staff member began consoling the resident and politely asking them what they needed - Staff members can often be found congregating around the nursing station to chat - Despite ongoing dialogue between family members and staff regarding basic care expectations, no improvement is made and complaints are disregarded And the list goes on. It appears that if not much assistance is needed, then care might be okay, but as mobility decreases, so does care giving and quality of life is diminished.

My grandmother was not only treated badly at St. Joseph's Villa in Dundas with respect to her personal care and dignity but died there under humiliating and unexplained circumstances! Several years later, I am still sick when I think about that place and her treatment.
